Butyric acid is the primary source of energy for intestinal cells, but the smell of butyric acid is unpleasant and it is not suitable to be added in large quantities in feed. Tributyrin is an esterification product of 3 molecules of butyric acid and 1 molecule of glycerol. Tributyrin can be hydrolyzed by endogenous lipase in the small intestine, so tributyrin is a good source of butyric acid for animals. Tributyrin, as the precursor of butyric acid, is convenient to use, safe, non-toxic and side effects, odorless, and all through the stomach. Tributyrin is to solve the problem that liquid butyric acid is volatile and difficult to add, and to improve the unpleasant smell when using butyric acid directly.
