Xylo-oligosaccharides, also known as xylo-oligosaccharides, is functional polymeric sugars composed of 2-7 xylose molecules bound by β-1,4 glycosidic bonds. The main components are xylobiose, xylotriose, and xylotetraose. . Xylo-oligosaccharides can be extracted from corn fiber, bagasse, straw, rice straw, and other hemicellulose-rich materials. Commercialized xylo-oligosaccharides are mainly obtained through enzymatic hydrolysis of corncobs and other wood materials.
